The Pipehenge Resource Book has been designed as a loose-leaf (three-ring binder) format to allow additional pages and updates to be included at any time. With this in mind, each section of the Resource Book is paginated separately.
Pipehenge will release on an ongoing basis, progressively challenging packages to supplement this Resource Book. These will incorporate new development in both
astronomy and astronomy teaching.
The selected activities address major concepts in astronomy. They are clear,
manageable and scientifically accurate. The activities are also designed to engage the student in active learning and most important, to be fun.
Although we do not suggest using activities at a lower grade level than
recommended, most activities can be adapted for use with older students. Even college students can sometimes benefit by activities designed for lower grades.
The activities do not present a sequential curriculum and are meant to compliment not replace existing astronomy textbooks, or curriculum guides. |

Advanced Teaching Activities (Due for release soon)
((Levels 4 to 7)
When a person first encounters Pipehenge they are enthralled by the 'hands-on' activities that can be done with the structure and simple explanations of every day astronomical events.
Once these have been grasped, there is an expanding series of activities that will greatly extend a person's knowledge of how daily and seasonal changes occur, and open their minds to more advanced astronomical understanding. This section builds on the Initial Teaching Activities. |
|
| Section Eight |
Camps And Field Study Programs (Due for release soon)
(Levels 3 to 5)
The residential nature of camps and the siting of Field Study Centers provide different learning opportunities with Pipehenge to usual school based studies. Away from the constraints of school timetables, camps and Field Study Centers offer greater possibilities to observe and record changing patterns in the sky during the day and night.
This section has three divisions.
1. For groups to do some work in preparation for the visit.
2. Activities during the visit.
3. Follow up activities to do after the visit.

|
| Section Nine |
Compass Activities (Due for release soon)
(Levels 2 to 4)
To function correctly Pipehenge must be aligned to the true north and south poles and has a colored pipe at each of the four cardinal points. The Navigator's Seat in the center of Pipehenge has a compass rose imprinted on it.
The Compass Activities section gives understanding of the differences between true and magnetic poles and is useful as an introduction to orienteering and navigation.
This section has a set of activity cards that students can use to familiarise themselves with using a compass. |

| Section Ten |
Pipehenge And Technology (Due for release soon)
(Levels 2 to 7)
There are two applications of technology to Pipehenge.
The first are add-on constructions used to demonstrate some astronomical principles. The second is the dramatic use of models to enhance understanding the principles, design and use of Pipehenge. These are made from a wide selection of materials encouraging measuring, scaling, design, construction, and use.
This section has plans and specifications for a series of add-ons, and models. |
|
| Section Eleven |
Pipehenge Games & Word Puzzles (Due for release soon)
(Levels 1 to 4)
Many of the activities with Pipehenge are the result of questions that children have asked. They discovered that learning can be challenging and fun if some of the activities were presented as games. This section has games and word puzzles that children have designed to test each other.
